This guidance has been put together as a resource for our members to form sustainable working practices and aligns with the UN’s sustainable development goals, and the UN Frontiers Report 2022, which identifies Noise as one of the three key challenges that need to be faced.

The targets are both “internal-facing” (how we can be more sustainable within our organisations), and “external-facing” (how we can work and provide advice for our clients with more consideration of what construction and design methods are sustainable), aiming to provide services that align with providing a sustainable future for life.

The UK Governmental Policy on Sound (described as “Noise”) states clearly that the vision is to “Promote good health and a good quality of life through the effective management of noise within the context of Government policy on sustainable development”.

Sustainability is therefore embedded into what is expected of acousticians.

The ANC suggest that this affects acousticians who operate with their member Companies in a number of ways, captured within two mission objectives:

• Direct impacts on climate change operations of Member Companies have, as one aspect of sustainability.
• Indirect impacts Member Companies have through the services that they offer which result in unsustainable outcomes.

This guidance sets out the ANC’s commitment to assist member Companies to achieve these goals by 2030, and beyond.

The authors of the ANC Sustainability Series documents, and ANC, recognise that each and every user of the documents will have differing experiences and views.
